Kanapha Spring Garden Festival

Every year Kanapha Botanical Gardens holds a spring garden festival. They have the usual festival food, italian sausage, funnel cakes, snow cones and vendors in the garden industry. It is a very neat festival to wander around.

This year we met up with Will's friend Lucas and his dad at the festival. The boys had a great time running round and getting into everything. The festival had a childrens area where the boys made bird feeders and had their photo taken in the sunflower cut out.

We also went into the butterfly tent. We were given a sponge soaked in sugar water on a stick to feed the butterflies. Although some people were successful in feeding the butterflies, I think the boys were a bit too herky jerky with their sticks to actually get a butterfly to land.

After we toured the festival, we walked around the rest of the garden and discovered the new children's garden. Kanapaha had recently finished construction and the plants were still filling in. However, it was a very neat place with several animal sculptures, including some you can sit on and some that were just lovely. There were also several places that were perfect for running round.

We had a very nice time at the garden but the best part (for Will at least) was at the very end. We got to ride on an actual school bus back to our car. Yep, a real, live, school bus. Will was thrilled and talked about it for days. Me....well, it just reminded me why I'm thankful my school days are behind me.

Asian Bamboo Garden at the Zoo

The Jacksonville Zoo opened a new Asian Bamboo Garden and Komodo Dragon exhibit this March. As members of the zoo we were invited to the Members Only preview. Since we are invited to very few exclusive events, we decided to go. Personally, I was hoping for red velvet ropes between us and the non-member rabble. Alas, I had to make do with white plastic chain ropes, not quite as fancy but hey, I'll take what I can get.

The exhibit current consists of the gardens, koi pond, panda and komodo dragon statues. The only actual animal on exhibit is the komodo dragon. Over the next few years the zoo is planning to increase the number of asian animals on display.

We, of course, went and saw other parts of the zoo. The carousel was having a buy one ride get one free deal, so Will got to ride the carousel twice. Once with Mommy and once with Daddy. He rode the lion both times, nothing would convince him to try another animal. All in all another fun day at the zoo.

Will getting his groove on

We went to a friend's wedding this weekend and Will was a complete dance maniac. I actually had to drag him off the dance floor so the bride and groom could have their first dance!

Random photos

Just a few photos of Will over the past three months.

We had fun exploring the front yard with a toy magnifying glass that Will got in a Happy Meal. And, no, I didn't let him use it on any ants :)

These are just some photos from around the house.
Will with his pjs on his head. An event which provoked much mirth one evening and resulted in a delayed bedtime. Will was pretty pleased with himself.
